Houston Rockets
Even though I have my doubts about the Houston Rockets hiring another big-name head coach after parting ways with Mike D’Antoni, if Doc Rivers is looking to land on another contender ahead of the 2020-21 season there might not be a better option. The Rockets are tailor-made to simply slide in a coach and pick up where they left off as contenders this past season in the Western Conference.
Whether Rivers is the man for the job is an entirely different question. Rivers has the experience and pedigree that would check all the boxes for the Rockets. I’m not sure how much he is of a fit schematically, especially considering how the Rockets pretty much changed their entire roster to fit with what D’Antoni runs, but he will almost undoubtedly be a candidate.
Houston probably will be making some personnel changes this offseason too. Could they cater the team’s roster to fall in line more with what Doc Rivers could thrive with? It’s an idea that will almost certainly gain traction over the next couple of weeks – or at least the Rockets make a coaching decision. Doc Rivers and James Harden? It could happen.
