How will Doc Rivers view Ben Simmons?

One of the bigger storylines for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2019-20 NBA season revolved around the potential leap that Ben Simmons could take and how it would raise or impact the team’s ceiling. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that question was answered – due to an injury that he suffered in the NBA’s restart bubble, which cost him the playoffs.

Simmons has consistently averaged 16 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds through the first three years of his career, plus he’s been one of the best all-around defenders too. The one big question about Simmons’ game revolved around his ability to hit a consistent jump shot. At least at this point in his career, Simmons simply doesn’t attempt 3-point shots.

In today’s game, that’s the one thing that will hold him back from potential greatness. In the NBA’s restart bubble, the Sixers were experimenting with Simmons playing off-ball. Will Doc Rivers want to play Simmons at the point guard, small forward, or power forward position?

That’s one of the biggest “what ifs” for the Sixers heading into next season under new head coach Doc Rivers.
