Victor Oladipo is the perfect stopgap star for the Miami Heat

On one hand, he could prove to be costly in terms of having to give up assets to get him but on the other, Victor Oladipo is kind of the perfect stopgap star for the Miami Heat heading into this offseason. Oladipo is probably going to be the only plausible substantial upgrade that they could make this offseason.

Heading into 2021, he’ll be on an expiring contract and the Heat wouldn’t be married to him if it doesn’t work out for either side after the 2021 season. If Oladipo doesn’t fit or if he doesn’t live up to his end of the agreement and wants bigger money that Miami doesn’t seem to fit their budget, they could just cut their losses and move on with plenty of cap space during the 2021 free agency period.

If it does work out, they could re-sign him during the 2021 offseason (hopefully along with another big name) by using their bird rights. Trading for Oladipo (if it doesn’t cost the Heat all that much) is the perfect low-risk, high-reward for a team coming off a run to the NBA Finals. For the Heat, it wouldn’t get much better than that.
