NBA Mock Draft: Warriors take James Wiseman; Knicks snag Patrick Williams
5. Cleveland Cavaliers – Obi Toppin, F, Dayton
The Cleveland Cavaliers will likely trade Kevin Love and will probably not re-sign Tristan Thompson. In that case, with the young depth that the team has with Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, and Kevin Porter Jr., I fully expect the Cavs to take a big.
Obi Toppin is arguably the most NBA-ready big that would fit on this team. He helped lead the Dayton Flyers to one of their best seasons in recent history and filled the stat sheet during his sophomore season. Many pundits are split on Toppin and his ceiling in the NBA, but he has everything you want in a modern big.
If the Cavs’ young core can continue to develop, there’s a chance that this team is competing for one of the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. They flashed at times last season under J.B. Bickerstaff and it’ll be interesting to see how he continues to build this team and how the front office builds out the rest of this roster.
