The Lakers got younger

On the surface, it’s easy to see why the Los Angeles Lakers shouldn’t be doubted in 2020-21. First, just look at the additions that the team made. The Lakers got younger and added depth to their championship roster.

During the offseason, the Lakers essentially swapped Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley (who didn’t play in the restart bubble), Dwight Howard, Danny Green, and JaVale McGee for Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, and Wes Matthews.

The Lakers not only got young (especially with the additions of Schroder and Harrell), but you can make the case that they got deeper. At the very least, the Lakers will be more powerful and explosive. Add those pieces to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and the Lakers will be a better team in 2020-21 than they were last season. I’m not sure how that can be argued otherwise.

And if Kyle Kuzma ever gets back on track, this Lakers team has the chance to be a real force and possibly run through the Western Conference.
