Why the Toronto Raptors shouldn’t trade for Drummond: It’s taking a step back for an innovative franchise
The Raptors have been one of the most innovative and forward-thinking organizations in the NBA over the past few seasons. It’s part of why they managed to win a championship by going all-in on Kawhi Leanord a few years ago.
Trading for a center that can be a liability (on some nights) on both ends of the floor would be out of character for this franchise. Trading for a center that has some throwback tendencies would be curious. While they could certainly use a natural big, especially after losing Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka during the offseason, there are likely cheaper options out there (or about to be out there during the buyout market).
Toronto won a championship by taking risks, I firmly believe in that philosophy. Although, trading for Andre Drummond is not a risk that this team should be taking. The idea of it may sound appealing, but the reward simply isn’t worth it.
Not to say that the Toronto Raptors should be sellers heading into the NBA Trade Deadline, but there are better options for this team if they’re serious about improving this roster than targeting Andre Drummond.
