Toronto Raptors: 3 reasons why it’s time to trade Kyle Lowry
Why the Toronto Raptors should trade Kyle Lowry: There’s a good chance leaves anyway during the offseason
Even if the Toronto Raptors decided to hold on to Kyle Lowry at the NBA Trade Deadline and hope to make one last playoff run, there’s still a good chance that he’s going to leave during the offseason anyway.
At 35 years old (which Lowry will be when he heads into free agency this offseason), it would be surprising if Lowry didn’t elect to try and hop on with a contender and chase one more ring or two. Even though he’s already won once, I suspect that Lowry wants to get back on that stage and possibly add to his resume.
Lowry is still a productive player and could fill a void as a starting point guard or even a backup for a contender over the next season or two. If the Raptors are indeed planning on pivoting to build around some of their younger players, it would probably be in the best interest of Lowry to try and sign with a team closer to winning a championship.
