Why the Cleveland Cavaliers shouldn’t trade Kevin Love: He’d be more valuable to the team on it than off it

Kevin Love is more valuable to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the team than he’d be off of it. You might read that sentence and say, “of course!” But I don’t think you’re entirely understanding where I’m coming from. Essentially, whatever the Cavs would get in exchange for Love on the open trade market wouldn’t be greater than the potential impact that he could have on the team the remainder of this season and potentially next season.

With such a young, promising team, Love could serve as a guiding veteran presence in the locker room and on the court. While Love might not be the all-star and dominating player that he once was, he’s still a reliable 3-point shooter, is a great rebounder, and his game should age gracefully.

At least for one season, the Cavs should see what they have with Kevin Love and this group of talented young pieces. If it doesn’t work out and Love doesn’t fit or if this team is not as close to making the playoffs as if they appear to be, then you could still trade him after next season.

For now, at least, even if a market emerges, it’s probably in the best interest of the Cleveland Cavaliers to hold on to Kevin Love.
