Boston Celtics: The Danny Ainge saga continues
Did Boston Celtics Danny Ainge make a big misstep, and has he gone too far this time?
Last week, I wrote an article about the shortcomings of Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge. Fair arguments were made and I was blaming him for the results we are seeing from the Boston Celtics this season. Everyone makes mistakes in their profession, it’s bound to happen to anybody and we forgive people for that.
Today I ran across a tweet from The Volume Sports that had a very interesting clip with it. Ric Bucher was on the Colin Cowherd podcast talking to Cowherd about why so many general managers across the league are displeased or upset with the tenured GM. According to Bucher, Danny Ainge has been trying to shop around and move the currently injured Kemba Walker.
This time Danny Ainge has gone too far. I understand moving on from Isaiah Thomas and trading for Kyrie Irving because you think that vaults you into championship contention even though Thomas ripped his heart out of his chest and handed it to you. I understand parting ways with Gordon Hayward because sometimes things just don’t work out and a fresh start is needed for both teams.
This latest act from the man in charge of the Celtics is too much. Ainge trying to move a player mid-season in the midst of an injury is just blatantly disrespectful to Kemba Walker. This man since day one has come in and been a leader and a true professional and you want to shop him around while he is injured? This is how you treat people that want to come in and win with your team?
Something isn’t right in Boston. Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward were quick to leave who knows the exact reasons they wanted to leave? Maybe they could see the writing on the wall with where this team was headed. Maybe it was something else? What other superstars are going to want to come to play in Boston while Danny Ainge is there and the past results have spoken for themselves.
If I’m a Boston Celtics fan, at what point do you start to worry that Jayson Taytum or Jaylen Brown are going to want to get out and go to greener pastures( no pun intended)? The championship window has closed for the Celtics.
Ainge’s inability to land impactful free agents and reluctance to move up in the draft is finally catching up to the team. With virtually no cap room and the once full war chest of assets starting to look shallow. Where do the Celtics go from here?
