Should the Miami Heat continue forward or take a step back?
The Miami Heat may have made the NBA Finals a year ago, but this team clearly isn’t in a position where they will be able to contend over the next couple of seasons, short of a major roster upgrade. Looking at the landscape of the offseason, I’m not sure there is a major roster upgrade to be had for the Heat.
When there was one available, Miami opted against it (when James Harden hit the open market). It’s hard to see another player of Harden’s caliber becoming available again this offseason. But, I guess in the NBA, you never know.
I just wouldn’t feel comfortable having to rely on that outlier in order to significantly upgrade the roster.
In the end, I have a hard time believing that Riley and company are going to want to take a step back this offseason, but it’s certainly something that the team needs to think about. Is there a move out there that will significantly close the gap between the Heat and the rest of the East contenders? I’m not so sure.
