New York Knicks: Pros and cons of trading for Damian Lillard
By Rodney Pyram
Cons: It will be a costly move for the New York Knicks
Trading for Lillard isn’t going to be cheap. At his peak, he is a top 5 player in this league and arguably the best point guard. Lillard does not want to go to a team and start over again. Lillard just turned 31 and his peak years are likely ending soon.
While he still has a few more years playing at a mega star level, he wants to make the most of it NOW. Playing in the bright lights of MSG isn’t going to be enough so surrounding him with a championship-caliber roster is going to be a major priority.
By trading away major assets, it will leave the cupboard bare in terms of the roster. The Knicks would give almost anyone and everyone except RJ Barrett and Julius Randle. But if Portland demands RJ, which they most likely will, what will be left of the roster. They will have to include draft picks this year and several of their young guns.
Assuming the Knicks are left with Randle and Mitchell Robinson, they would have a lot of work to do to fill out the roster. Would Lillard still want to come?
