3 East teams that could regress in 2021-22: Atlanta Hawks

Fresh off a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, it may seem like I’m trying to rain on the Atlanta Hawks’ parade. However, looking at the landscape of the East, it would actually be unwise – and unfair – to assume that the Hawks will be able to make it back to the conference finals – or further – next season.

They’re a talented young team, but don’t nearly have as much talent as the likes of the Bucks and Nets. At least not right now. Depending on what the Sixers end up doing with Ben Simmons, an argument could be made that the best-case scenario for the Hawks is a 4th seed. Even then, that’s assuming the Heat and Celtics aren’t going to make big strides this season.

The Hawks have a bright future and are coming off a great season, but I believe there’s a great chance that this team takes a step back than it takes a step forward this season.
