NBA Trade Rumors: The Brooklyn Nets have received trade calls for Kyrie Irving; would they actually move him?

Just a few weeks ago, the idea that the Brooklyn Nets would trade Kyrie Irving seemed extremely outlandish. However, Kyrie’s continued refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine (which would make him eligible to play in home games for the Nets) and the team’s 1-2 start could have the Nets second-guessing their stance on Kyrie.

Initially, it didn’t make much sense to trade Kyrie. After all, he’s a big reason why Kevin Durant elected to play in Brooklyn and not somewhere else. Although, it really doesn’t do any good – and could even cause more harm – for Kyrie to continue to be inactive on this roster.

When the Nets made it clear that Kyrie would not be allowed to be a part-time player and when Kyrie still remained adamant about not changing his stance on the COVID-19 vaccination, something was eventually going to have to change.

Either the Nets were going to be perfectly happy with having a wasted asset on its roster or Kyrie was going to change his mind. And while Brooklyn seems OK with having Kyrie on the roster until something changes on his side, you can’t help but wonder if their patience will wear thin. Especially if the losing becomes more and more common.

Interestingly enough, according to a recent report, even though a trade seems unlikely at this point in the proceedings, the Nets have taken calls on Kyrie.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski makes it quite clear that the Nets aren’t actively looking for a trade for Kyrie, but they’re also not ignoring calls from interested teams.

Will anything come from those calls? At this point, I still feel like if the Nets were to trade Kyrie, it would be a huge surprise.

Nevertheless, if the Nets continue to lose at a greater pace than they were last season, something has to give. And a big decision will have to be made by the Nets.

If Kyrie doesn’t change his mind on the COVID-19 vaccine, you’d have to imagine that Brooklyn might be forced to explore trades. Especially if they continue to struggle in the win/loss column.
