The Lakers need to improve drastically on the offensive end or on the defensive end

If the Lakers are going to rebound from their inconsistent start to the season, they’re going to need to improve drastically on one end of the floor – either offensively or defensively. The Lakers, at least thus far this season, aren’t especially special at any one thing.

They’re average offensively and defensively and if they’re going to be a legit contender in the West this season, they’re going to have to be a top 10 team at something. Right now, they’re meh on both ends of the floor and that pretty much explains their 6-5 record.

Maybe the return of LeBron – whenever that happens – will help drastically improve their offseason, but I’m not so sure. Westbrook is still struggling with his efficiencies on the offensive end and this team doesn’t have the individual defenders to compensate for their offensive struggles.

I’m not sure if it’s realistic to expect the Lakers to make a drastic jump on either end of the floor, and that may be all the evidence you need that suggests this team is not a true contender at the moment.
