7. Luka Doncic – Dallas Mavericks

Every year, the GMs around the league are asked to make some predictions for the upcoming season. These include questions on who they think will win the title, who will be the best rookie, and who will most likely have a breakout year.

One of the bigger questions asked is who the GMs think will win the MVP. In this most recent survey, Luka Doncic was the 2nd most selected at 33%, only behind Kevin Durant at 37%. This pick makes sense. MVPs are usually won by great players who are seen to be carrying their team to the high level of success they attain.

So far this season it’s been a bit of a disappointment for Doncic, but that’s only because the standards for him are set so high. He’s averaging 25.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 7.7 APG so far this year, which is a stellar stat-line for any player. The Mavs are also winning games and are currently 4th in the West. This is mostly down to Luka, but he isn’t playing as big a role as he was last season. Other Mavs like Porzingis, Jalen Brunson, and Tim Hardaway Jr. are stepping up as well.

If Luka can up his FG% (currently 43.8%) and 3P% (30.9%) then he could be in with a real shot of winning his first MVP.
