This should not come as a surprise; the Washington Wizards’ biggest priority heading into the NBA Trade Deadline should be to secure a commitment from Bradley Beal. Even though it likely won’t come via an extension, the Wizards need to be sure of their future.

And getting an under-the-table commitment with Beal could help this team on numerous fronts. For one, it could help them continue to build this roster by utilizing the trade deadline properly and would help temper fears of his potential departure.

The Wizards will likely remain in the playoff picture for the remainder of the season but this season will only be categorized as a success if they can retain Beal heading into next season – he has a player option for next season.
