LA Clippers trade candidate No. 3: Spencer Dinwiddie

Just a half-season after signing his three-year $54 million deal with the Washington Wizards, Spencer Dinwiddie may be on the trade block. After puzzling interviews regarding his role as a leader for the team, Dinwiddie feels like an outcast in the DC locker room. That development, combined with his poor play overall, may land him on a different team in a few weeks.

However, his uncharacteristic numbers shouldn’t dissuade the Clippers from making a run at Dinwiddie. This year, he’s averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists on 38.6 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from the perimeter. His shooting efficiency has been the worst since his 2017-18 campaign, and his overall production has dropped over seven points since his last full season.

Despite this, the Clippers still badly need an offensive creator, and Dinwiddie’s value can’t get much lower. The Wizards are set for changes going into this trade deadline, as they’ve sputtered all the way from the top of the Eastern Conference down to the 11-seed, out of the play-in.

A potential addition of Dinwiddie could keep their defensive identity of coach Lue while providing another scorer in isolation. Additionally, Dinwiddie can act as a true point guard, driving and kicking to open shooters on the perimeter – something the Clippers have a surplus of.

For Washington, they could be interested in flipping the point guard for expiring contracts or veterans that are easily movable. They could also look to dump Davis Bertans’ bad contract in a deal like this, setting themselves up for a full rebuild in the future.

Overall, the Clippers will acquire a point guard at the deadline – whether it’s one of these three names or another former All-Star in Kemba Walker, we’ll have to wait and see.
