NBA Rumors: Mark Jackson is once again being linked to another head-coaching job, this time the Los Angeles Lakers.
Heading into an offseason in which big changes can be expected, one of the first tasks that must be completed for the Los Angeles Lakers is hiring a new head coach.
And while there is expected to be a litany of candidates for the job, there’s one candidate, according to a recent report, that could arise that would raise some eyebrows.
Per The Athletic’s Sam Amick, one name to watch when it comes to the Lakers head coaching search is Mark Jackson, mostly because he’s a possibility that LeBron would like to see come to fruition.
Jackson hasn’t coached in the NBA since the 2013-14 season. He was the Golden State Warriors coach before they exploded onto the scene. Jackson is a polarizing figure in the NBA and while he’s been a head-coaching candidate for a few jobs over the course of the last few years, he’s never gotten another shot in the league.
He could get another shot, this time with the Lakers and LeBron James.
LeBron is one of the most powerful players in the NBA and he holds plenty of power everywhere he goes – including with the Lakers, no matter what anyone believes. Even with just one year remaining, it would be surprising if any big move that the Lakers made this offseason didn’t include his two cents.
And when it comes to hiring a new head coach, there’s no question that LeBron will be involved in the hiring process one way or another.
The big question is if LeBron will have final say. It’s not whether LeBron will have an influence on who the Lakers hire, it’s how much influence he’ll have.
The Lakers have some big decisions to make this offseason. Could Mark Jackson really land one of the biggest jobs in the league?
