NBA Trade Rumors: Should the Miami Heat consider circling back to Kyrie Irving without the necessary assets to land Donovan Mitchell or Kevin Durant?
The Miami Heat has their sights set on making a big move this offseason. And there are several “whales” on in the open sea that the Heat could attempt to fetch. The problem is, the Heat doesn’t have the necessary equipment to make a successful attempt.
Or at least that’s the way it seems. Because, otherwise, the Heat would already have a whale in their grasps.
Miami wants to get in on the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. They would gladly take a Donovan Mitchell as a consolation prize as well. Though, with only two tradable future first-round picks and not the blue-chip young player that either the Brooklyn Nets or Utah Jazz is looking for, the Heat are left scrambling.
It’s the ideal offseason for Pat Riley and the Heat. It’s just unfortunate they don’t lack the means to complete it. And that’s become apparent and it has been reported that the Heat is looking to acquire additional future first-round picks in an attempt to seriously take a shot at Durant or Mitchell.
However, there is one other “whale” out there that may not require the boatload of picks that the Nets and Jazz, respectively, are looking for in exchange for Durant and Mitchell. There’s one Kyrie Irving that could probably be had for much cheaper.
In fact, it was recently reported that the Nets trading Kyrie for Kyle Lowry (and probably a pick or two) is not entirely out of the question. Even though it was also recently reported that Kyrie is willing to play for the Nets this season, there’s probably a high likelihood that the Nets would prefer to trade him.
Question is, would that be something the Heat would/should circle back to? And it’s a question that the team may have to seriously consider, especially if they miss out on Mitchell and Durant, which seems like the most likely outcome.
Looking at the rest of the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers got better, the Milwaukee Bucks will be healthy, and the Toronto Raptors will see professional improvements as well. The Heat, without a big move, will have gotten worse.
Kyrie may not be the ideal off-the-court “whale” that the Heat want, but he’d actually be a great fit basketball-wise for the Heat and would qualify as an improvement for the team this offseason. If nothing else, it’s something that Miami should consider and think about again.
