NBA Trade Rumors: Multiple recent reports seem to indicate that trade talks between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers for Kyrie Irving are not happening.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the thought of the Brooklyn Nets trading Kyrie Irving to the Los Angeles Lakers seemed like a foregone conclusion. It felt as if it was going to happen one way or another, and eventually.

However, the recent reporting revolving around the Nets, Lakers, and Kyrie suggests something different may be the ultimate outcome. According to one report from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, talks between the Nets and Lakers have not progressed.

Adding to that report, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer says that Kyrie seems to be accepting the fact that he may be playing for the Nets this season.

Of course, this is not to say that his fate for this season has been sealed; not by any means. A lot can change between now and the start of the regular season. Whether that’s the Lakers upping their offer last-minute, or another team stepping in with an offer that resonates with what the Nets are looking for.

What we can gather from all this reporting – along with the recent rumblings surrounding the Kevin Durant situation – is that the Nets don’t seem willing to make a trade just for simply making a trade.

They know that Durant and Kyrie may want out, but they’ve begun this game of chicken and they don’t plan on folding. At least not anytime soon. Brooklyn may not have much leverage, but they do have time.

There’s roughly a month and a half before training camps open, and there’s really no rush to make a deal. Even if they feel they must make one before camp opens.

The Nets should be holding out for the best deal, and they still have time to wait.
