NBA Trade Rumors: Utah Jazz ‘engaged’ in moving Mike Conley
NBA Trade Rumors: According to a recent report, the Utah Jazz has engaged teams in potentially trading Mike Conley Jr.
With the way the Utah Jazz has operated this offseason, there’s a growing chance that this team could end up being big sellers from now to this year’s NBA Trade Deadline. Donovan Mitchell could be moved and it’s been reported that none of the team’s veterans are off the table in potential talks.
And that apparently includes Mike Conley Jr.
According to a recent report, the Jazz has “engaged” teams in a potential Conley trade. It remains to be seen how much interest there would be in a Conley trade, especially considering that he’ll be 35 years old this season and coming off a “regressional” year.
That said, Conley could still be a valuable player for a contending team. Conley as your third or fourth-best player could be worth the compensation. Especially if it helps the team make the jump from good to contender.
What may end up hurting the Jazz’s chances of trading Conley is the fact that he has two years remaining on his contract, which will pay him roughly $47 million over the next two years. It’s not a terrible contract but could make some teams shy away from a potential deal.
However, he could be a player that could be had for cheap on the trade market this season. Even more so if the Jazz ends up trading Mitchell and pivoting to a full-blown rebuild. At least for the time being, Mitchell is still on the roster, and perhaps this “engaging” with teams is more about seeing what the market would be should this situation evolve.
Either way, even heading into the season, Conley is a name to keep an eye on. And if there’s any contender looking for some depth in the backcourt, Conley could be an option. Albeit a costly one, but perhaps a worthy one nonetheless.
