NBA Trade Rumors: Could a Jaylen Brown trade request come next?

NBA Trade Rumors: If the Boston Celtics aren’t careful, Jaylen Brown could be the next star to ask for a trade next.

It’s a tale as old as time. An NBA player sees his name being thrown around in trade talks, gets upset, and then demands his team to trade him due to a lack of respect. Even more so if said player is a league All-Star and an up-and-coming player.

We could very well have our next candidate of such circumstance in Jaylen Brown. It was reported Monday morning that the Boston Celtics had stormed into the Kevin Durant sweepstakes and that they were a serious threat. A serious threat because Boston had proposed a package centered around 25-year-old Jaylen Brown.

Brown is entering his prime and coming off a season in which he averaged 24 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from 3-point range. He was vital in the team’s NBA Finals run and was actually the team’s leading scorer in the championship series against the Golden State Warriors.

Brown is not just the second-best player on the Celtics but an argument could be made that he’s a budding superstar. It wouldn’t be surprising if he were upset that his name is, once again, in the midst of trade talks after the postseason he just had.

So much so that perhaps this could be the final nail for him. In the player empowerment movement, we’ve seen this narrative play out time and time again. If Brown is truly irritated with the Celtics, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if he asked for a trade.

Brown has two years remaining on his contract with the Celtics and then will likely ask for a max extension. Could Boston be anticipating that in a couple of seasons and be trying to trade him now for a Durant? Could this just be a bargaining ploy from the Nets to leak the offer?

There is so much that could potentially be at play here. But one thing is for certain – Brown is human and it’s unlikely that he’s going to be just OK with the Celtics throwing his name in trade talks again.

Maybe this time Brown will draw a line in the sand. Maybe he won’t and understand that this is just a business. Either way, it’s time to keep an eye on what transpires in Boston the rest of this offseason.
