NBA Trade Rumors: The New York Knicks may be unwilling to include Quentin Grimes in a potential deal for Donovan Mitchell.
The Utah Jazz and New York Knicks sparked talks revolving around a trade for Donovan Mitchell a few weeks ago. However, nothing has materialized and the longer this goes on, the greater the chance is that there won’t be a deal for Mitchell.
Nevertheless, there are constant negotiations taking place via the media.
It’s been consistently reported that the Jazz and Knicks remain far apart on a deal for Mitchel. However, it appears that the Jazz and Knicks know how to get a deal done.
And the recent reporting suggests that the Jazz want a lot of draft picks and a collection of young players that centers around Quentin Grimes. And here is where the problem potentially lands for the Knicks.
From all indications, New York appears willing to part ways with the necessary draft picks it will take to get a deal done. Though, they may not be willing to part ways with Grimes, who has become one of the Knicks’ blue-chip prospects.
Grimes has developed nicely with the Knicks over the last year after being a late first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He was also a standout in the NBA’s Summer League this offseason, showcasing his ability and potential.
Though, that’s perhaps something that the Knicks would want to keep on the roster. As they should. But Utah clearly has other plans as they come from a place of leverage.
All in all, it seems unlikely that the reason why New York doesn’t end up with Mitchell is because of Grimes. Then again, this is the Knicks we’re talking about. And nothing could be off the table when it comes to organizational self-destruction.
