NBA Trade Rumors: It may be the Boston Celtics or bust for the Brooklyn Nets when it comes to a possible Kevin Durant trade.
It has become somewhat clear that Kevin Durant can’t be on the roster when training camp opens for the Brooklyn Nets.
In a meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai, Durant reiterated his trade request and made it clear to the organization that they needed to choose between him and the combination of general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash.
On Twitter, Tsai made it quite clear what that decision could look like. From the sound of it, it doesn’t seem as if Tsai is ready to fire the team’s general manager and coach for Durant.
Also included in the report was the fact that three teams remain the favorites to land Durant – the Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, and Boston Celtics. However, I’m not really sure how realistic any of those teams are to meet the expected price tag for Durant.
The Nets have maintained that they want every asset that they could get their hands on in any deal for Durant.
Considering that the Heat has been consistent in their refusal to include Bam Adebayo in any deal and the Raptors have done the same with Scottie Barnes, it’s hard to see how either of them could realistically land Durant.
The Celtics were already rumored to have offered a package centered around Jaylen Brown, the best player that has been rumored in any deal for Durant. Boston had to do some damage control after that report was leaked, but I’d have to imagine that it’s something both the Celtics and Nets could circle back to.
Especially if the Nets don’t lower their asking price for Durant, it could very well be a Celtics package or bust for Brooklyn.
