NBA Rumors: According to a recent report, the Brooklyn Nets, at least for now, are not changing their approach to a possible Kevin Durant trade.
For the past month and a half, the NBA world has been waiting for a Kevin Durant trade to come across the wire. At least thus far, it hasn’t come. And despite an attempt from Durant to push one forward, it doesn’t appear that a trade for Durant is any closer.
In a recent hit on ESPN’s Get Up, Adrian Wojnarowski said there hasn’t been any added urgency from the Brooklyn Nets’ side regarding a trade for Durant. Despite Durant essentially giving the team an ultimatum, reportedly, the Nets aren’t blinking. At least not yet.
That makes sense. After all, the Nets theoretically hold all the leverage at the moment.
Durant still has four years remaining on his current contract (including this season). He’s going to be 34 years old by the time this season begins. The only true leverage tool that Durant has is that he could possibly hold out.
Would that work? It’s tough to tell, but it seems he’s already trying to use that card and the Nets haven’t been phased at all by it.
The big question that Durant needs to ask himself before teams start reporting for camp is whether or not he’s truly willing to sit out the season if the Nets don’t give into his trade demand. Because, ultimately, this season could come to that.
The Nets haven’t wavered on their astronomically high asking price, are willing to be patient, and don’t seem to have any worries with this lingering into the start of the season.
This game of chicken is trending in favor of the Nets. And if they can’t find the right deal in the next couple of weeks, Durant will have a big decision to make regarding his immediate future with the team.
