NBA Rumors: There are whispers that Kevin Durant is more willing to retire than to play for the Brooklyn Nets this season. Fact or fiction?

The NBA offseason has quickly turned into a soap opera that has featured Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets. For about a month, it’s been a waiting game between the Nets and KD. As the rest of the league waits on a possible resolution between both sides, it’s clear that Durant is continuing to push for a trade.

He has requested a trade from the Nets, reiterated his desire for a trade in a recent meeting with management, and is now leaking he could be willing to hold out of training camp to ensure he is moved.

At least thus far, the Nets are still sticking to their guns. They are going to hold out until they get the offers that they feel they deserve for Durant and don’t have any added urgency to trade him at the moment.

Without many options left, there is one league executive that believes Durant (per Marc Stein) could opt to retire than play for the Nets this season. If this report is indeed accurate, it would be quite the move from Durant.

It would be the last move that Durant could make that would possibly have an impact on the Nets. If the Nets believe that Durant would actually go through with this.

And quite frankly, I’m not buying it. Durant is just 33 years old and is coming off an excellent season. He’s still very much in the midst of his prime years and this move simply doesn’t align with the player that he’s promoted himself to be.

Durant has always been about basketball and the love for the game. And all of sudden, because he isn’t happy in Brooklyn, he’s going to throw it all away? I’m simply not buying it. Though, if he is serious, it would absolutely throw a wrench into this entire situation.
