NBA Trade Rumors: The Boston Celtics are not close to trading for Kevin Durant. Is something more at work behind the scenes?

A few weeks ago, the NBA was flipped on its head when it was reported that the Boston Celtics had jumped in on the Kevin Durant sweepstakes.

However, as great as that many sound on paper, perhaps it’s time to hit the brakes on the idea of Durant joining Boston.

According to a report from the Boston Globe, the Celtics and Nets aren’t close to a deal for Durant. Taking it a step further, the two sides haven’t had substantial talks in quite some time (if at all). Considering everything that has been reported on the Celtics as a possible suitor for Durant, it leaves me to believe that perhaps there’s something more going on here.

Perhaps the Nets have been using the Celtics as more of a way to raise the current market for Durant. To a certain extent, it does make sense.

If we really look at it, the Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans, nor the Toronto Raptors have been reportedly willing to give up their best player for Durant. There may not be any other realistic suitors for Durant, other than Boston.

If it’s even true that Boston would be willing to trade Jaylen Brown for Durant. Though, there’s no guarantee that it is. If Brown was truly offered in a package for Durant, why wouldn’t the Nets accept it? It bogs the mind or at least mine.

Maybe the Nets are using the Celtics as leverage over other teams? Maybe they’re trying to hope Durant’s trade value on the open market somehow explodes soon. It’s probably not.

The Nets have some things to figure out regarding Durant. If he doesn’t want to play in Brooklyn and if the Nets refuse to trade him for what they believe is market value for him, something has to give eventually. And I’m not sure what will.

All we know, from everything that has been reported recently, is that a trade is not close.
