NBA Trade Rumors: The Brooklyn Nets keep moving the goalposts back when it comes to their asking price for Kyrie Irving. Something isn’t right.

The Brooklyn Nets are trying to pull off something that won’t be easy. They’re trying to push Kevin Durant off his trade demand and are hoping it will also all work out with Kyrie Irving, who is on an expiring contract himself.

While the offseason started with the possibility of a Kyrie trade, it’s looking more and more as if the Nets want to run this roster back. Though, there’s some relationship repairing that needs to take place before that could actually happen.

The Brooklyn Nets want even more for Kyrie Irving

And according to a recent report, the Nets want even more than initially believed in exchange for Kyrie in a trade. They don’t just want future assets, but they also want players that could help the team win now.

Let’s really think hard about this entire situation. At one point in the offseason, there were reports that no teams, really, were interested in Kyrie – outside of the Lakers. Now, we’re supposed to believe that the Nets are in a place where they can negotiate from a place of power. I find that hard to believe.

So what is this report that the Nets keep pushing back the goalposts when it comes to what they’re seeking in a trade? Well, at least in my opinion, this seems like the Nets keep raising the asking price because they want to do everything they can to retain Durant.

And if the Nets have any chance of retaining Durant, it will likely have to be WITH Kyrie on the roster. In the outside chance that Durant does come to the conclusion that he’s willing to play for Brooklyn this season, I have a hard time believing it will come without Kyrie on the roster as well.

That said, if the Nets aren’t operating from a place where they want to trade Durant, why would they do the opposite when it comes to Kyrie?

So teams that are interested in Kyrie are going to continue to have to wait it out. That means the Lakers too, even if they are willing to go all in now.

For better or worse, the Nets aren’t at a point where they want to blow up this roster. It remains to be seen if Durant will allow them to do so, but they’re going to continue to move the goalposts until they can’t any further.

Question is, will this plan actually work?
