NBA Trade Rumors: Cam Reddish wants a more significant role as he heads into a contract year with the New York Knicks. A trade could be coming.

The New York Knicks have had quite the offseason. They landed free agent prize Jalen Brunson, signed RJ Barrett to a huge contract extension, and have reportedly been knee-deep in negotiations with the Utah Jazz for Donovan Mitchell.

And less than a month before the start of training camp, they might not even be finished. One smaller move that they may have to make, regardless of where they get in the Mitchell negotiations, is trading Cam Reddish.

The New York Knicks may not be able to appease Cam Reddish with a bigger role this season

According to a recent report, Reddish wants a more significant role and that may not be something the Knicks could offer him. That means a trade may be the only resolution between the two sides.

New York acquired Redidsh at last year’s NBA Trade Deadline, but never really found his footing with the team. In 15 games with the Knicks, he only averaged 14 minutes per contest on six points per game.

Reddish was a top 10 pick during the 2019 NBA Draft but has failed to live up to that billing. He’s extremely talented but never fit with the Atlanta Hawks and it appears to be the same with the Knicks.

If he does hit the trade block, his market could be interesting. On one hand, he’s a great young talent and is still just 23 years old. On the other, it could be complicated to find a middle ground on an extension after the season. Especially if he begins to show even just a bit of promise on the floor with a bigger role.

It would be great to see Reddish get the opportunity to shine. Though, it just seems like it may not happen in New York. He’s a great talent that deserves a chance to develop. Perhaps there’s a rebuilding team out there that would make more sense than the Knicks.
