The promise of the Detroit Pistons’ young backcourt

Most of the intrigue for the young Detroit Pistons will be found in the backcourt. Led by Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, the Pistons may have a case for the best young backcourt in the Eastern Conference – perhaps aside from the Cleveland Cavaliers and maybe the Atlanta Hawks now.

At the very least, they’ll be in the conversation. Cunningham is coming off an up-and-down rookie season, but during the second half of the year, his play improved. During the month of March alone, Cunningham averaged 23 points, seven assists, and six rebounds per game on 48 percent shooting from the field.

If he can continue that into this season, there’s no question he’ll be one of the better young guards. Throw in the dynamic potential of Ivey and it’s easy to see why the future is bright for the backcourt in Detroit.

And that’s not even considering the promise that lies with Saddiq Bey at the small forward position and Duren (who will need time to develop), down the line, at center.
