30 in 30: How quickly can the young Detroit Pistons blossom?
Cade Cunningham is the key for the Detroit Pistons
Despite the promise that revolves around this team’s young talent, the key for the Detroit Pistons falls on the continued development of Cade Cunningham. He’s coming off an inconsistent rookie season but did flash at times during his debut season in Detroit.
Where he truly struggled was with his offensive efficiency. During his rookie season overall, he shot only 42 percent from the field and 31 percent shooting from 3-point range. There’s no question that there needs to be some improvement in that area – and he did show that toward the second half of last year. But he needs to prove that he can do that consistently.
The experience will certainly help Cunningham, but he needs to prove that he can be more than just promise for the Pistons. He was the first big piece in the new rebuild for the Pistons and could be the ultimate key to improvement this season for them.
The Pistons’ future is bright. But, at least for now, it’s all just potential and the possibility of a bright future. Continued flashes from Cunningham – and now Ivey and Duren will be a key this season.
