NBA Trade Rumors: The New York Knicks are reportedly open to shopping Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley ahead of the trade deadline.
In the next few months leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline, it seems that the New York Knicks intend on correcting the logjam that they have in the backcourt. It has hurt the team’s rotation and that has made it difficult for the team to get into any type of rhythm. While some of that could probably be blamed on head coach Tom Thibodeau, the hope is by trading a player or two, the team can settle in during the second half of the season.
According to a recent report, two players that the Knicks would be open to trading are Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley. It was recently reported that teams were calling about Quickley and now this subsequential report seemingly suggests that this is something the Knicks could move toward doing.
The Rose tidbit should not be shocking by any means. A veteran player that has seen his role with the team diminish is absolutely a candidate to be moved at the deadline. Add in the fact that he’s essentially an expiring contract (with a team option for next season) and it would be shocking if Rose is still on the Knicks after the deadline.
Rose, Quickley will likely attract different types of suitors
If the Knicks move forward with shopping Rose and Quickley, both of those players are likely going to attract different types of suitors. Contending teams and playoff-hopeful teams are likely going to try and pry Rose away from the Knicks. Especially if the asking price isn’t huge.
At this point in his career, who knows what Rose has left in the tank? But with such a good contract situation, he’d be worth a gamble for any contender that is looking to solidify their backcourt.
Quickley, on the other hand, is much more of a project and risk than Rose is. Any team that would be interested in Quickley would have to be willing to invest time and effort into him. Even though he’s flashed at various times through his young career, he’s still very much a work in progress.
Quickley has one guaranteed year left on his contract for next season and then will have the chance to hit restricted free agency after next season if not signed to an extension next offseason.
