New York Knicks: Cam Reddish may have burned his Knicks opportunity

It seems as if Cam Reddish’s time with the New York Knicks may be coming to an end. If so, what’s next for the young wing?

When the New York Knicks acquired Cam Reddish at last year’s NBA Trade Deadline, it was somewhat surprising. The Knicks didn’t, per se, have a need at the small forward position, and made even less sense considering that the team doesn’t consider itself in a rebuilding mode in which they have many open minutes to give away to young projects.

The Knicks acquired Reddish knowing that he was still very much that and that it was going to take time for him to gel and find his footing. New York didn’t play him much after they acquired him last season but the hope was that after a full offseason in New York, he would get a real shot to emerge as a contributor this season.

And to start the season, Reddish did get a fair shot in New York. The problem is that it seems he may have already burned through it. Reddish is averaging eight points per game on 45 percent shooting from the field this season but has seen his role significantly diminish over the last few games.

It led to a DNP-CD against the Cleveland Cavaliers over the weekend and, according to a recent report, the expectation is that he will remain out of the Knicks’ rotation.

Cam Reddish has struggled to find a permanent home in the NBA

Reddish had a solid start to his career in Atlanta but fell out of favor (it seemed) during his third year in the league and the Hawks traded him at last year’s trade deadline to the Knicks. Now, after only 35 games played in New York, Reddish may be on the move again.

If it is indeed true that Reddish is going to remain out of the rotation in New York, you’d have to assume that his time with the Knicks is more than likely over. Even more so considering that he’s going to enter the offseason as a restricted free agent.

How many more opportunities will Reddish get? He is surely talented but hasn’t been able to carve out a home in the NBA. If not in New York, where next? Perhaps more important, is there a team that is willing to take another shot on him and try to trade for him at the deadline?
