NBA Trade Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers still have outrageous (and probably laughable) hope of landing a superstar via trade.

The good news is that the Los Angeles Lakers still believe in the Los Angeles Lakers. There may not be many other souls that have that same belief, but it’s always good when an entity hasn’t lost hope in itself.

That said, irrational belief in ones self can be detrimental. It can be a curse. For example, doing the right thing in the wrong season doesn’t always result in benefits. For the Lakers, not letting up when they have no shot of assembling a championship contender could end up doing more damage than good.

Nevertheless, it seems that even though the Lakers are four games under .500 and 12th in the Western Conference standings, they’re going to attempt to add a significant player at the NBA Trade Deadline.

And they reportedly have their sights set high.

Here’s the good part – a recent report states that the Lakers are still holding out hope that they could land one of Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, and Bradley Beal if they were to somehow come available.

You have to credit the Lakers. The fact that they still believe they could land one of these players with the (extremely) limited assets that they have is something. When I first read this report, I had to double-check that I wasn’t reading something on The Onion. It’s not. It’s just the Lakers believing in the Lakers.

How will this season ultimately end for the Los Angeles Lakers?

With every subsequent rumor that arises, I can’t help but wonder how this season will ultimately end for the Lakers.

Here’s the thing with the Lakers – with every day that passes, the clock continues to run out. The Lakers are not in a position where they could be all that patent. IF they want to be a player in the Western Conference this season, they probably have to make a move sometime soon.

And despite what the Lakers believe in their front office, it’s unlikely that any of their pipe dream targets are going to become available.

I guess the saying goes: if you don’t believe in yourself no one will. (or maybe I made that up). I don’t really know. But the fact that the Lakers still have this outrageous confidence in themselves, even after the disaster of the acquisition that Russell Westbrook ended up being, is impressive.
