NBA Rumors: Raptors have insanely high asking price for Anunoby, Siakam
NBA Rumors: If the Toronto Raptors are going to make a big move at the NBA Trade Deadline, they would have to be offered the farm.
The Toronto Raptors have been underwhelming so far this season but to say (or expect) that they’re going to be all-out sellers at the NBA Trade Deadline would be foolish. That said, if the team can’t find a way to turn their season around in the next few weeks, they could be open to somewhat of a retooling at the deadline.
Though, according to a recent report, if they become open to trading one of their big-name players – Pascal Siakam or OG Anunoby – it’s going to take a whole lot. Think of a historic godfather offer, similar to what the Utah Jazz got from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Rudy Gobert during the offseason.
Are the Toronto Raptors setting the market?
It’s not exactly surprising that it’s been reported that the Raptors have high asking prices for two of the three best players on their roster. They should. If Toronto is getting to a point where they’re ready to retool this roster, they should get a ton for two of their foundational pieces.
That’s what Siakam and Anunoby have been for the team over the last few seasons. But this could also be the Raptors trying to set the market for the trade deadline – or their participation in it. Essentially, the Raptors are saying: “if you want us to be involved, we need to see some huge offers.”
This could also be the Raptors sending out the message that they’re not interested in making the big moves that perhaps some rival teams would like them to make. While it’s unlikely that any team will make the offer in-season that would be appealing to the Raptors, that also doesn’t mean Toronto isn’t interested in making any moves at the deadline.
Aside from Siakam and Anunoby, the Raptors have a few other players that they could move, likely for the fraction of the asking price that they’ve set for Siakam and Anunoby.
Despite this recent report, I don’t think the Raptors are a team to forget about. They may not be making a big move at the deadline, but they could still be active one way or another.
