NBA Trade Rumors: The Toronto Raptors may not blow up their roster, but Gary Trent Jr. could be available at the trade deadline.
Over the last few weeks, the whispers around the Toronto Raptors suggested that they could be a surprise seller at the NBA Trade Deadline. And considering that they’re just 5-14 in their last 19 games, this is a team that continues to look like it is in desperate need of a change.
The big question that the Raptors will need to answer is whether or not that change will come at this year’s NBA Trade Deadline. If Toronto wanted, they could get a big return at the trade deadline for any number of their big-name contributors. However, a recent report suggests they won’t be all-out sellers at this year’s deadline.
Interestingly, that same report also says that Gary Trent Jr. could be available at the trade deadline (predictably, for the right price).
Despite the Raptors’ struggles, Trent is having a very solid season for the team and is averaging 18 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range. He also has a player option for next season, so he could explore free agency after this season if he wants. That would be quite the gamble for the Raptors, so it’s not that surprising if they are indeed open to moving him at the deadline.
The market for Gary Trent Jr. should be vast at the NBA Trade Deadline
The market for Trent should be interesting at the NBA Trade Deadline. He’s an exploring contract but has proven to be a productive player over the last few years of his career. He has some limitations on the defensive end of the floor but can fill it up on the offensive end. And he’s a good 3-point shooter.
He should have value on the open market. Where it could get complicated is around the fact that he’s likely going to be seeking a big-money deal in free agency.
The Raptors are considered one of the most interesting teams to keep an eye on heading into the NBA Trade Deadline. They have plenty of intriguing tradable assets on their roster and have one of the best (and most aggressive) general managers in the league.
I’m not saying that the Raptors will 100 percent make a move at the NBA Trade Deadline, but they’re certainly a team that will have plenty of options to make a deal if they want.
