NBA Trade Rumors: Ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, the LA Clippers could be eyeing a move for Mike Conley Jr.
Before the season, the LA Clippers were one of the favorites to win the 2023 NBA Championship. A duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, along with one of the deepest rosters in the Western Conference, figured to be a strong threat to win it all.
However, through the first half of the season, the Clippers are sitting in sixth place in the West standings and have been barely better than .500. But with the NBA Trade Deadline quickly approaching, this is a good opportunity for the Clippers to get back on track.
Making a move at the deadline could go a large way in solidifying this team’s chances of taking off during the second half of the season. And according to a recent report, the Clippers could be eyeing a move for Mike Conley Jr. at the deadline.
The Utah Jazz could be big sellers at the trade deadline but it remains to be seen if they end up making Conley available. If so, it appears the Clippers will at the very least be interested.
The LA Clippers need a spark during the second half of the season
The Clippers have been one of the more inconsistent contenders in the Western Conference this season. Looking at where they sit in the standings and how the team has performed over the course of the first half of the season, you wouldn’t mistake the Clippers for a contender.
However, this roster is expected to turn around during the season’s second half. Especially as Kawhi Leonard continues to get healthier and healthier. If Kawhi is close to 100 percent healthy heading into the playoffs, the Clippers are largely expected to be a handful in the playoffs.
If they are able to add a piece or two ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, the Clippers are only going to emerge as a more dangerous team heading into the postseason.
Whether or not Conley ends up being that piece remains to be seen but it would be surprising if the Clippers didn’t at least attempt to make a move at the deadline. LA has been uneven for most of the year and it would be smart to try and make a move that would help spark the team heading into the push toward the playoffs.
