NBA Trade Rumors: The Miami Heat should roll the dice on Cam Reddish at the NBA Trade Deadline.

The Miami Heat are widely expected to be aggressive heading into the NBA Trade Deadline. They’re a team that needs to upgrade the roster if they have any hope of playing any factor in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

But improving the roster the conventional way through the NBA Trade Deadline could prove to be difficult. The Heat doesn’t have many assets at their disposal and not much wiggle room with how loaded their cap sheet is. But they could take a swing on a low-risk, high-reward type of player.

One that would make sense that has already been linked to the Heat is Cam Reddish. The 23-year-old wing has failed to find a comfort zone through the first few years of his career. Even though he has flashed his talent at various moments throughout his career, consistency has been his downfall. First with the Atlanta Hawks and then with the New York Knicks.

Perhaps the Heat could roll the dice and make Reddish their new reclamation project for the next couple of seasons.

The risk that potentially comes with Cam Reddish

Though, there are some risks that potentially come with acquiring Reddish at the trade deadline. For one, it would be difficult to integrate him into the team’s rotation on the fly. That can be both good and bad for the Heat, but it would be unlikely for Reddish to see much game action until he’s fully up to speed in Miami. That could prove to be troublesome for such a young player.

Second, without him getting much game action, it could be difficult when trying to negotiate a new contract for him during the offseason. Reddish is a restricted free agent after this season and even though the Heat will have the option to match any offer he gets (if they were to acquire him at the deadline), I’m not sure how comfortable they would be with allowing the market to set the pricepoint for Reddish.

That could put the front office, which will already be in a tight situation financially, in an even more difficult situation to maneuver.

In theory, though, Reddish is the ideal low-risk, high-reward trade target that has paid off time and time again before for the Heat. He will be cheap at the deadline and he’s a player that could still blossom as a pro.
