The proposed deal for the Miami Heat

Heading into the NBA Trade Deadline, it’s clear that the Heat are looking for some help in the backcourt and a power forward. It’s clear why Eric Gordon makes sense for the Heat. He’s a professional scorer and should immediately help the team when it comes to their 3-point struggles.

K.J. Martin is not a player that many casual fans are familiar with but is talented and offers another versatile wing. He’s a bit small at 6-foot-7 to play the full-time power forward position but he is bigger than Caleb Martin who has struggled in that role for the team so far this season.

Martin should help on that front even though he may not be considered the long-term answer for the Heat. In exchange, the Heat would be able to get out from under Duncan Robinson’s contract. But, it would cost Nikola Jovic, the team’s talented rookie, and their 2023 first-round pick. Short of an absolute catastrophe during the second half of the season for Miami, it should convey this year.

If the Heat is willing to essentially swap Jovic and this year’s first-round pick for Gordon, Martin, and get out from under Robinson’s contract, this is a deal that should appease both sides.
