Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks

It’s been a disappointing season for the Atlanta Hawks, and they’re absolutely a team that we should keep an eye on heading into the offseason. I can’t help but feel like this is a team that is going to make quite a bit of changes during the offseason.

They have a new head coach, re-structured their front office, and have been clearly an underachieving team this season. Something needs to change and I think it will this offseason. The big question for the Hawks is whether or not they’re going to make as big of a move as many expect them or perhaps believe that they will make.

And it’s no surprise that the player at the center of a potential big move is Trae Young. They were whispers at the NBA trade deadline that Young was a player that the team could potentially shop during the offseason. He is having somewhat of a down year when it comes to his offensive efficiency number. He may still be averaging 27 points and 10 assists per game but he’s shooting close to a career-low from three-point range this season. In an NBA era that values offensive efficiency, that’s been part of Atlanta’s problem this season.

As outlandish as it may seem that the Hawks could trade Young during the offseason, I believe that it’s a very real possibility. Unless something has drastically changed between the trade deadline and now, a potential trade of Young is very much on the table.
