NBA Rumors: It’s beginning to sound as if the Toronto Raptors could be in search of a new head coach at the end of the season.

Over the last decade or so, there haven’t been many consistently successful franchises in the NBA like the Toronto Raptors. And a big reason for their consistent stability has been head coach Nick Nurse. The 55-year-old head coach was hired by the Raptors in 2013 as an assistant coach, but it didn’t take long for him to take over as the lead man.

In 2018, Nurse was promoted to head coach and what he’s done for the team since that has been nothing short of amazing. During Nurse’s run as the team’s head coach, he’s led them to an NBA Championship (during his first season as a head coach) and the Raptors have made the playoffs four out of the five seasons (including this year).

The Raptors have been highly successful during Nurse’s tenure with the team but there is now some indication that change could be coming. In his words, Nurse plans on “evaluating where he’s at at the end of the season.”

How much change should the Toronto Raptors expect this offseason?

That could mean a lot of things but it does seem like he could be open to walking away from the Raptors. And, if so, that could open the door to some bigger changes for the team overall this offseason.

There have already been whispers that big changes to the roster could be coming over the next few months with Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. expected to test free agency this summer. And piggybacking off the NBA Trade Deadline murmors, there’s also a chance that the team could continue to explore a possible OG Anunoby trade.

Perhaps this is part of the reason for Nurse’s recent comments. I don’t want to put words into his mouth but it seems like the Raptors could be on the verge of a possible retooling or even a soft rebuild. And there’s no guarantee that’s somehitn Nurse would want to invest fully in, especially if there are other factors at hand as well.

dark. Next. NBA Pretender or Contender: Bucks look legit; Celtics, Grizzlies fading?

The Raptors are going to be an interesting team to keep an eye on heading into the offseason. They’re a team that could go either way, and it wouldn’t be surprising what they end up doing. But there’s no question that they could be on the verge of some big changes this summer.
