NBA Trade Rumors: If the Dallas Mavericks are looking to add another star via trade, Deandre Ayton and John Collins seem like possible targets.
The Dallas Mavericks have officially missed the NBA Playoffs. They didn’t even qualify for the NBA Play-In Tournament which, objectively, has to label this season as somewhat of a massive disaster.
Heading into the offseason, there have to be some changes. You’d imagine that there will be. The question is, what changes could the team be looking to make?
According to a recent report, if the Mavs do indeed try to make a splash via trade, two names to keep an eye on are Deandre Ayton and John Collins (who the team has shown interest in in the past).
Both of those players would make sense on one level, but you’d have to wonder if either of those players would give the team enough on the defense where it would matter all that much. After all, it wasn’t the lack of offense that plagued the Mavs, it was their historically bad defense.
But I guess any help would be great heading into next season. And any added talent should be embraced.
The Dallas Mavericks will need to be aggressive during the offseason
With whispers that Luka could grow so frustrated with the Mavs that he could eventually demand a trade, there’s no question that the team should be full-throttle this offseason. They need to come up with a plan and exit the offseason as an improved team. That’s easier said than done but the clock is ticking on the front office to make a move that would tangibly move the Mavs up the Western Conference standings.
And right now, it’s hard to see this team doing that without some outside help. Even if the Mavs are able to bring back Kyrie, we’ve already seen that it may not even be enough.
But there’s no guarantee that the Mavs will even be able to re-sign Kyrie. He’s one of the most unpredictable players in the NBA. He’s going to be an unrestricted free agent and will be able to dictate his agenda. Whether or not that includes re-signing with the Mavs remains to be seen.
Despite all that, one thing is clear – the Mavs will need to be aggressive heading into the offseason, especially if they want to have any chance at bouncing back heading into next season.
