Step 2: Make a smart pick in the 2023 NBA Draft

The second step for the Houston Rockets heading into the offseason is to make a smart pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Houston is projected to have the No. 2 pick and has a 14 percent shot to win the NBA Draft Lottery altogether. And it becomes that much more simpler if the Rockets are able to win the NBA Draft Lottery. If the Rockets do earn the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, there really isn’t much of a decision for the Rockets to make. The pick will be Victor Wembanyama.

However, if the Rockets don’t win the NBA Draft Lottery and end up, they’ll need to be smart with their selection. Whether that’s No. 2, 3, 4, or perhaps worse, the Rockets will need to hit a home run with this draft pick. And it’ll be interesting to see what they elect to do – will they select the best player available or look for more of a “best fit” type of prospect?

For a team that is looking to make a big move up the West standings next season, these decisions become so much more important. And it’s not something the Rockets can take for granted. These are positions that should be taken advantage of by a franchise such as Houston.
