8. Brandin Podziemski, Santa Clara
Brandin Podziemski is an interesting name to keep an eye on heading into the NBA Draft. He’s a player that was a late riser toward the end of the season and one whose draft stock could only be getting better. During the final 11 games of the season, Podziemski scored at least 20 points in eight of those games. He emerged as one of the best and most productive offensive players in college basketball by the end of the season.
Podziemski concluded his sophomore season at Santa Clara by averaging 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists on 48 percent shooting from the field and 44 percent shooting from 3-point range. When it comes to his offensive game, there’s a lot to like about Podziemski. However, he does have concerns on the other end of the floor.
He isn’t the most athletic player and could be somewhat of a defensive liability if he doesn’t quickly improve on that end of the floor. That will be the biggest hurdle that he’ll have to clear as he prepares to make the leap to the NBA. However, if he’s good enough on the offensive end, teams will be open to tackling his defensive concerns.
