7. Orlando Magic – Ausar Thompson, G, Overtime Elite
Equipped with the NBA’s Rookie of the Year in Paolo Banchero, the Orlando Magic will be heading into the offseason with a great level of momentum. And after a 12-win jump, this is a team that could be one more win jump away from being a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. And part of making another jump in their development could depend on making another great selection with their projected top 10 pick.
At No. 7, if the right point guard is there for the taking, I believe that’s the direction the Magic will go. Finding some semblance of stability in the backcourt could go a long way in the Magic improving heading into next season. Ausar Thompson could be an option that the Magic should be willing to take.
Like his brother Amen, Ausar doesn’t come without questions about his game. For one, because of his inconsistent shooting, he could prove to be a difficult fit on any roster. Especially for the Magic considering they were one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the league last season.
Nevertheless, if Ausar does reach his potential as a prospect, he does have star talent and an overall high ceiling.
