NBA Trade Rumors: Jazz waiting for their opportunity to pounce on Luka Doncic

NBA Trade Rumors: The Utah Jazz are waiting patiently for their opportunity to throw the kitchen sink at the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic. 

It was somewhat shocking when the Utah Jazz elected to trade both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell last offseason. Nevertheless, perhaps there was one goal in mind behind both those moves after all – waiting for a chance to throw everything they can at the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic.

According to a recent report, the Jazz is keeping a close eye on what is possibly unfolding in Dallas with Luka. The Mavericks are coming off quite a disappointing season in which they failed to make the playoffs a year removed from making a run to the Western Conference Finals. With limited assets, it’s difficult to see how the Mavs are going to make big improvements this offseason and if they can’t make big changes soon, it could make certain improvements next season, it will only bring about more questions regarding Luka’s future with the team.

If the Mavs get to that worst-case scenario point with Luka, there’s no question that the Jazz will be in a great position to make a grandfather trade offer to the Mavs.

What would have to happen for Luka Doncic to demand a trade?

Let’s be honest here for a minute; it would take a lot for Luka to demand a trade away from the Mavs. It would likely take another colossal disappointment of a season and then more mismanagement from the front office.

While that’s not outrageous to envision, I also don’t believe that it’s particularly likely. For all the struggles that the Mavs have had in recent years, their biggest misstep recently revolved around the fact that Jalen Brunson simply wanted to be a Knick more than he wanted to be a Mav.

Trading for Kyrie Irving at the NAB Trade Deadline was a bold move that, if nothing else, Luka has to appreciate. And you’d have to imagine that the Mavs are going to do whatever it takes to re-sign Kyrie this offseason.

The big question for Dallas is, what else could they possibly do this offseason to surround Luka with the necessary supporting cast?

Those are the types of questions that will either fuel Luka’s confidence in the organization or drown it.

All that said, it would be extremely surprising if Luka demanded a trade from the Mavs anytime soon. The Jazz may have to wait for a long time.
