2. The Philadelphia 76ers’ core has hit its ceiling

Looking at the Philadelphia 76ers’ core, there’s a strong argument to be made that they have hit their core not only individually but also as a whole. Joel Embiid is 29, James Harden is 33, and Tobias Harris is 30. That’s not a core three that is going to get much better. At least you wouldn’t expect it at this point in their careers.

The only saving grace is possibly Tyrese Maxey, who is only 22 years old. But can he get to a point where he could be a No. 1 or 2 on a winning team? It’s likely too early to tell but I don’t believe it’s something the franchise should completely bank on heading into next season. The last thing this team needs is another wasted year.

There’s a big reason why many viewed this season as the Sixers’ best chance to win a championship. Heading into the offseason, the Sixers will need to answer whether or not this team’s core can improve. I’m not sure management can honestly say yes.

If the Sixers believe this core has hit its ceiling, one of two things needs to happen – Philadelphia has to either blow it up or try to retool around Embiid.
