Trade assets: 1. Luka Doncic 2. 2023 first-round pick (10th overall) 3. Kyrie Irving

It’s a shame that the Dallas Mavericks weren’t able to pick up where they left off when they made a somewhat shocking run to the Western Conference Finals. This past season, they missed the NBA Playoffs entirely even after trading for Kyrie Irving at the deadline. Nevertheless, this is a team that has more questions than answers at the moment heading into the offseason.

When it comes to trade assets, the Mavs have one premier asset and then a lot of uncertainty on their roster. Luka Doncic is easily one of the best trade assets in the NBA. You can make the argument that he’s the best active trade asset in the league right now – though, that could change depending on how Victor Wembanyama looks.

They do also have the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, which does hold value. After that, this is a team that lacks talent. By default, I do suppose that Kyrie Irving is the team’s third-best trade asset but his value isn’t high. But because of his name and overall potential, I suppose you have to lump him on this list.

Even then, the Mavs have to re-sign him first. And if his recent history is any indication, that won’t be an easy or seamless process.
