Jaylen Brown has a decision to make after disappointing Game 7 loss to Heat
After their loss in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat, Jaylen Brown now has an important decision to make.
The duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown couldn’t seem to get it done in Game 7 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. Tatum seemed to injure his ankle seconds into the game, making him take a back seat role to Brown.
Brown, as seemingly the first option, shot 8-for-23 from the field while going 1-for-9 from the three-point line. He tallied eight rebounds and five assists. But probably the most alerting stat from his game was his eight turnovers. As the first option having to set the tone for the team, turning the ball over is not the way to go.
Evident in Game 7, the Boston Celtics need somebody to help make things easier for Tatum and Brown when things aren’t going their way.
Maybe Derrick White?
Malcolm Brogdon?
Marcus Smart?
Consistency seems to be the problem for this Celtics team when it comes to someone who can take the load off of Tatum or Brown when one of them is having a bad night.
The Celtics need to find a player who can be a consistent option when relieving the load from Tatum and Brown, and they have time to find that person.
Jaylen Brown is only 26 years old. Jayson Tatum is 25 years old. They’ve been to four Eastern Conference Finals together, with one finals appearance. There still is a championship window for this Boston Celtics team as their two most important players are still young.
With trade rumors surrounding Jaylen Brown and how teams might try to lure him away from Boston, it’s important to know that he is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and this loss will definitely affect his decision. It all comes down to if he thinks he can win a championship with this team and if he thinks the front office can make those changes.
It’s hard to get a player like Jaylen Brown on your team, who averaged 26.6 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game, and also collected the honor of making the All-NBA Second Team.
It all comes down to whether the Celtics’ front office believes it’s easier to build around Tatum and Brown or just Tatum.
