Luka Doncic is exactly the type of superstar LeBron James needs

If you were crafting out the perfect star for LeBron James to play next to in the final few years of his career, Luka Doncic is it. For all the winning that LeBron and Anthony Davis have done together in Los Angeles (it wouldn’t be fair to simply overlook their championship in 2020), AD is not the ideal final teammate.

AD is injury-prone and often doesn’t take the rein as the No. 1 in Los Angeles. As talented as AD is, he’s more of a No. 2 than a No. 1 in the NBA. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But LeBron needs a clear No. 1 at this point in his career. Luka could be that and then some. The combination of Luka and LeBron would arguably be the most dynamic 1-2 punch in the NBA – perhaps only second to Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.

Luka is durable, a top 3 player in the league, and is still improving as a player. If LeBron was looking for the ideal “final teammate,” Luka would be it.

And that’s probably one of the biggest reasons why you can’t count out the Mavs in whatever this report ends up materializing into.
